Milestone

The mansion portion of Residential Evil is complete!

I've now built, populated, and lit and sectored the entirety of the upper two floors of the map. It's been really fun, and more challenging than I expected. Sectors are weird! I've learned a lot about the quirks of sectors, and there are plenty, but I've got the map running really nicely (the framerate's at least as nice throughout as what I get when playing Asylum or Factory) and I think it looks good. There's a lot of visual interest spread around but the spaces flow well. It's definitely a claustrophobic map-- there are going to be a lot of sudden, frantic encounters when two players meet around the corner of a tight corridor-- but that's the kind of fight I enjoy. One of my favorite online maps ever is CS_office for Source, and specifically the interior of the office proper, if that tells you anything. Here are shots of the last few rooms I finished up:

Now on to the subterranean lab, which will be A) more brightly lit by a long shot, and B) give the player just a little bit more breathing room (though it's still mostly tunnel fights.)
